Swedish Innovation Culture
A century ago Sweden was among the poorest nations in Europe. Today it’s a world leader in innovation world thanks to its advanced society and welfare state, an array of successful multinational companies, a commitment to gender equality and a strong belief in the individual. Uppsala University is ranked 61 in the world and the highest ranked comprehensive university in Sweden. The last decade, it has been the strongest university in the Swedish innovation system. From a user perspective, the Swedish innovation system, will be described and discussed by Prof. Klas Hjort.
Klas Hjort教授简介: Hjort has more than 25 years of experienced in advanced microengineering. Previously, his focus was telecom applications, studying optical and RF MEMS in III-V materials. Last decade, he has focused on heterogeneous microsystems on stainless steel, flexible foils and elastomers; for life science and wireless sensor node applications. With novel process technologies, he has demonstrated ion-track lithography on flexible printed circuit board for, e.g., integrated microwave and sensor components, +100 bar micromechanical pumps and valves in stainless steel laminates, microfluidic stretchable intelligence with liquid alloy conductors, microdialysis for protein analysis, and soft inertial fractionation devices.
American culture of campus and research
Dr. Yiğit Mengüç works at the interface of mechanical science and robotics, creating soft devices inspired by nature and applied to robotics. He received his B.S., 2006, at Rice University in Houston and both his M.S., 2008, and Ph.D., 2011, in Mechanical Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh. More recently, he completed his postdoctoral work at Harvard University’s Wyss Institute for Biologically Inspired Engineering in 2014 and is now an assistant professor of Robotics and Mechanical Engineering at Oregon State University. He is the founder and head of the mLab at OSU, which focuses on creating better robots with soft active materials, biologically inspired mechanisms, and rapid digital manufacturing.
